Summary

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored support to pupils with ASD and behavioural needs, both in class and on a 1:1 or small group basis.

Assist the class teacher in the planning and delivery of lessons and behaviour management strategies.

Implement individual education plans (IEPs), communication methods (e.g. , PECS, Makaton), and behaviour support plans.

Monitor and record students' progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

Work closely with therapists, SENCOs, and parents/carers to ensure a holistic approach to support.

Essential Requirements:

Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or challenging behaviour.

A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to managing behaviour and emotional regulation.

Ability to work flexibly under the direction of the class teacher and SEN staff.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

Team Teach / Positive Handling training.

Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or TEACCH framework.
