Location: Summertown, Oxford

Closing date: 1 August 2025 at 12 noon
Join us as an Assistant Manager in our Summertown shop and become and ambassador for our charity. We have a permanent part time position available working 30 hours per week.

You will be joining a busy shop which sells furniture in addition to clothes and bric a brac. Manual handling is a core component of the role as you will be moving furniture with assistance in order to merchandise the shop on a regular basis. You will work alongside a team of paid staff and volunteers, helping to maximise the shops sales.

Great customer service is crucial to what we do. Previous experience in hospitality, main stream retail or ideally charity retail would help you hit the ground running.

Full training will be provided. We are keen to work with people who have the right attitude so willingness to learn specific skills is equally as important as past experience. To thrive in this role you will need a good eye for detail, strong organisational skills and capability to manage teams in a variety of situations. You will be supported by the shop Manager and Area Manager to achieve your objectives in these areas.

Our Summertown shop opens 7 days a week and the role will require some weekends on a rota basis shared equally between team members. Flexibility is required as working patterns will change regularly due to the needs of the business and levels of voluntary support.

The shop has a number of allocated parking spaces so we can offer free parking which is not common in central Oxford.

We are committed to getting the best out of our applicants and we have therefore made the commitment to sharing interview questions to candidates prior to the interview. These will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Please note that everyone working for Helen and Douglas House are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Helen and Douglas is committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are an equal opportunity employer and value the benefits of a diverse workforce. We positively encourage applications from all areas of the community.
