Summary
The post holder will work on the second on call (ST3+) rota, and as such will take on the responsibilities associated with this role. The post holder will be supervised by a Consultant during clinical duties whether elective or on call and will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating good communication skills with all members of the team. The weekly timetable will vary from week to week. It will include sessions in antenatal clinic, delivery suite, urogynaecology outpatients, urogynaecology theatre and the emergency gynaecology assessment unit. These sessions are aimed to diversify the post holders clinical experience, to provide a service and to accommodate the rolling on call rota of long days and night shifts on labour ward and the gynaecology acute treatment unit. On call frequency is 1 in 9. Urogynaecology The post holder will have the opportunity to: - Conduct the initial assessment and examination of women with urinary incontinence, prolapse and other urogynaecological problems in clinic under the supervision of a senior registrar or consultant. - Counsel women adequately about the diagnosis, lifestyle changes, conservative treatments, further investigations where necessary and surgery. - Referring to other colleagues in the team when necessary. - Recognise and observe the roles of the multidisciplinary team. - Attend the specialist clinics such as perineal, urodynamic studies, pelvic floor and ambulatory. - Demonstrate good communication with patients and staff. The post-holder will always be resident in the hospital when on duty The Consultant Obstetrician will be resident between 08.30-22.00 on weekdays and 08.30 and 17.00 on weekends. The Consultant Gynaecologist will be resident between 08.30 and 17.00 on weekdays and will conduct a resident ward round on weekends. They will remain resident beyond these times if required but will otherwise be on call from home. The post complies with the New Deal requirements and the European Working Time Directive.
