About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Basic Skills and English Teacher for a full-time position in Leeds, starting in September 2025. The role involves teaching English, Literacy, and Numeracy at Entry Level and Levels 1 and 2, focusing on helping learners build functional life skills in communication and everyday maths.

Requirements
- Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent)
- Level 3 or above in English and Maths
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Eligibility to work in the UK.

- Strong subject knowledge in basic English and functional Maths
- Ability to differentiate and personalise learning
- Patience, empathy and emotional intelligence
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Understanding of SEND and inclusive teaching approaches
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lessons in Entry Level to Level 2 English and Maths.
- Teach practical literacy skills including reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Deliver functional numeracy (e.g. money handling, budgeting, time, measurement).
- Develop individual learning plans based on assessment outcomes.
- Differentiate materials to suit varied learner needs and abilities.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing formative assessments.
- Encourage learner independence and critical thinking.
- Provide constructive feedback to support academic growth.
- Collaborate with support staff and inclusion teams to meet learner needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and CPD opportunities.
