Summary

We are looking for two dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to join a supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with pupils who need additional support to access their learning, helping them develop positive relationships, self-confidence and coping strategies. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering tailored interventions.

  • Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner.

  • Promote emotional wellbeing and positive attitudes to learning.

  • Support pupils both inside the classroom and during unstructured times such as breaks and lunchtimes.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external agencies when needed.

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs is desirable.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are an advantage.

  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills as a SEMH Teaching Assistant.

  • Able to remain calm under pressure and respond flexibly to pupils’ needs.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.
