As a Modern Apprentice Joiner you will be supported to gain the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities to become a qualified joiner providing an effective repairs and planned maintenance service to council housing and buildings.

The apprenticeship will last approximately four years, to enable the apprentice to complete an appropriate joinery qualification - SVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery.

The apprentice will learn how to carry out planned and responsive repairs as well as internal and external alterations, assist in identifying any future maintenance and will keep accurate records of work undertaken.

As well as the responsive repairs the apprentice work will include demolition, timber framing, cladding/roofing work, lining and dry partitioning, window and door replacement, kitchen and bathroom upgrades and finishing’s.

  • The grade of this post is SLGLW/AB1/AB2/C2
  • Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,859 per annum (pro rata)
  • Temporary Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year.
  • Modern Apprenticeship for 4 years.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
  • We are happy to talk flexible working
  • The post gives an opportunity for some one to work in the North Isles with the Building
    Maintenance Team looking after Public Buildings and SIC Housing
