Brightwork is delighted to be partnering with a well-established organisation in the engineering and services sector to support the recruitment of a Payroll Specialist. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative team in a key role, managing payroll and employee benefits with precision and care.

The Opportunity:

This position is ideal for someone with solid payroll experience, particularly in weekly payroll cycles, and a good working knowledge of UK tax and employment legislation. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payroll and benefits operations across the business.

The Role:

• Take full ownership of weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
• Oversee the administration of staff benefits, including pensions, salary sacrifice schemes, and employee perks
• Ensure all statutory submissions are filed correctly and on time
• Act as the go-to point for payroll and benefit-related queries across the business
• Support financial and compliance processes, including audits, reconciliations, and reporting
• Maintain accurate employee and payroll records in line with GDPR and internal controls
• Work in partnership with HR and Finance to support salary reviews, reporting, and process improvements
• Stay informed of changes to payroll legislation and advise the team on best practice

The Person:

• Demonstrated experience in a payroll-focused role, ideally with exposure to high-volume, weekly payroll
• A working knowledge of payroll systems and confidence using spreadsheets for reporting
• Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation, tax rules, NICs, and auto-enrolment pension schemes
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage tight deadlines
• Professional communication style and the ability to build good working relationships across teams
• Someone who can work independently, problem-solve, and bring a proactive mindset to continuous improvement

Desirable Qualifications:

• CIPP (Technician or Diploma) or similar payroll-specific qualification
• AAT Level 2–3, CIPD, or other relevant training in HR or finance
