Perth & Kinross Council’s Building Standards team is known for its high performing, customer focussed service. We have a culture of continuous improvement to achieve the Council’s priority of developing a resilient, stronger, and greener local economy.
This is an opportunity for an experienced and committed surveyor to contribute to a high achieving Building Standards service.
The successful candidate will demonstrate customer focus in the delivery of the Council’s statutory Building Standards function. This primarily involves the assessment of building warrant applications, and the inspection of on-going construction works. Other duties include dealing with defective/dangerous buildings and temporary raised structures (e.g. event stages), etc.
This post is initially for Maternity Leave cover with the possibility of becoming permanent, subject to approval.
We operate a hybrid working system which includes home, site and office working, however regular and at times extensive travel within the Perth and Kinross area will be necessary to carry out inspections and attend meetings as required
Skills & Experience Required
You will have the ability to work on your own initiative to manage your workload, as well as working well as part of the team and with wider stakeholders.
You will have good communication skills and be committed to a high standard of customer service.
The ability to use IT systems, such as Uniform and Enterprise is desirable.
This post is ideally suited for someone experienced in Local Authority Building Standards.
The successful candidate must have considerable knowledge of all Building Standards related legislation.
You will be able to carry out detailed plan assessments of a wide range of buildings and construction types.
Candidates must possess:
• A minimum of a degree in a building construction / surveying related subject, together with relevant post qualification experience in Local Authority Building Standards environment
• Full membership of a relevant professional body i.e. R.I.C.S. or C.A.B.E.
• A valid UK driving licence with access to transport when required, as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
