Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint Consultant Urological Surgeon’s (on a full-time or part-time basis).

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join a well-integrated team. This Consultant Urological Surgeon post will be based at Northumbria Healthcare, with access to operating lists at the Freeman Hospital within Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.

The department would benefit from the appointment of a Urologist with a sub-specialist interest in Urology diagnostics, investigation and the management of benign prostate conditions (including minimally invasive prostate surgery), functional urology and/or endourology. The Trust can however accommodate any other sub-specialty interest or work with an appropriate candidate towards gaining expertise in any area.

The appointment will join a group of 16 Consultant Urologists who work across Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals and Northumbria Healthcare, alongside an Associate Specialist working in Northumbria Healthcare. The Urology Department at Northumbria Healthcare is a spoke of the Newcastle upon Tyne hub. The post will be based at either North Tyneside General Hospital or Wansbeck General Hospital however the successful candidate will be expected to work Trustwide.

The Job Plan will typically include an average of 9.25 Programmed Activities for Direct Clinical Care duties (including admin and MDT) and 1.5 Programmed Activity for Supporting Professional Activities. Your normal working pattern will be agreed with you locally as part of your lob plan. Direct clinical care duties will involve advice and guidance/triage, outpatient clinics and diagnostic procedures.

The trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. Further SPA activity will be agreed at job planning depending upon service needs (if the appointee was to undertake additional responsibilities in activities such as teaching, training or educational supervision, for example).

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.
