Are you a team player with a passion for delivering excellent customer service? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, friendly environment where every day is different? If so, West Herts College is looking for a General Assistant to join our dynamic team.

About the RoleAs a General Assistant, you'll play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our catering and hospitality services. Based at our Watford campus, you'll ensure our students, staff, and visitors receive a warm welcome and great service. You may also occasionally be required to provide cover at our Hemel Hempstead campus (mileage paid for travel in emergency cover situations).

Key Responsibilities

- Greet and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Prepare and serve hot/cold drinks and simple meals
- Operate tills and manage cash/card transactions
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all working areas
- Support with basic food prep, dishwashing, and stock replenishment
- Follow all health, safety, and food hygiene regulations
- Report any maintenance issues and ensure safe operation of equipment
- Help keep service areas tidy, presentable, and well-stocked
- Contribute to team success with a positive and proactive approach


What We're Looking For

- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment
- Attention to detail and a commitment to hygiene and safety
- Flexibility and reliability, with a can-do attitude
- Willingness to learn and undertake training (including food hygiene and equipment use)
- Basic food preparation, cleaning, and cash handling skills (training provided)
- Punctual, dependable, and enthusiastic
- Desirable Qualifications (but not essential)Level 1 or 2 Food Safety Certificate
- Basic IT skills for till or stock systems
