Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fabrications Team Leader to join a growing business that specialises in the design, manufacture, and installation of bespoke factory automation systems. This role sits within the internal fabrication division, responsible for producing high-quality custom metal components to support automation and machinery projects.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, including:

• CNC machines
• Manual lathe
• 3.2m x 125T press brake
• 3kW fibre laser
• MIG and TIG welding bays

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in fabrication—particularly in brake press operation—who also has the leadership skills to supervise a small, productive team.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Fabrications Team Leader will manage the day-to-day operation of the fabrication workshop. You will be expected to lead by example, taking ownership of scheduling, quality control, team coordination, and operational safety. A strong background in brake press work is essential, as this will be your core area of responsibility.

This is a hands-on position requiring a motivated individual who can maintain high standards, communicate effectively with internal departments, and bring out the best in the team. A flexible and practical mindset is essential, with the ability to adapt and take initiative as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

• Lead a small team of skilled fabricators and machinists
• Delegate tasks effectively based on individual strengths
• Promote a team-oriented culture focused on collaboration, pride, and continuous improvement
• Manage absence, attendance, and holiday schedules to ensure continuity
• Identify and address personnel issues professionally and escalate when needed

Workshop & Production Management

• Organise and maintain workflow to meet project deadlines
• Track project progress and log timesheet data accurately
• Work with design and production teams to align priorities
• Interpret technical drawings and support accurate fabrication
• Ensure machines are maintained according to TPM guidelines

Operational Excellence

• Take the lead in operating the press brake efficiently and safely
• Ensure high standards of health and safety across the workshop
• Maintain a clean, organised, and well-equipped working environment
• Encourage care and responsibility for tools and materials
• Set and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and professionalism

Procurement & Supplies

• Order raw materials and consumables in line with purchasing guidelines
• Recommend reliable suppliers based on experience and quality
• Maintain cost-efficiency while ensuring production remains uninterrupted

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

• Proven experience in a fabrication/workshop environment
• Strong experience operating and managing press brake machinery
• Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to motivate and guide a team
• Ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings
• IT literate and comfortable using production planning tools
• Excellent communication skills
• Self-motivated, proactive, and hands-on approach
• Must have a full driving licence and own transport (rural site location)
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Desirable

• MIG and TIG welding experience
• Familiarity with CNC machines or fibre laser operations
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S or continuous improvement techniques
• Experience in ordering materials and liaising with suppliers
• Knowledge of health & safety compliance in fabrication environments
