Summary
Role Title: Safeguarding Training Officer
Reporting to: Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor
Salary: £18,000pa (£30,000 FTE)
Hours: 21 Hours, including some evening and weekend work.
Location: St James House, Liverpool. There will be a requirement to travel throughout the Diocese.
Role Summary:
To contribute to the development of, and ensure the implementation of, the
diocesan safeguarding training strategy, in line with the Safeguarding Learning
and Development Practice Guidance issued by the national church.
This will involve delivery of safeguarding training in small groups, either face
to face or virtually, to office holders, employees and volunteers in the Diocese
of Liverpool, in line with training materials set out by the national church.
Key Responsibilties:
1.Lead the Diocese’s implementation of the Safeguarding Learning and
Development Practice Guidance.
2.Organise and deliver a rolling programme of safeguarding training in
accordance with national guidelines for office holders, employees and volunteers in the Diocese of Liverpool. Some administrative support is available but the postholder will have to undertake some of the administration of courses.
3.Ensure accurate records of training undertaken are maintained.
4.Lead a network of suitably qualified and experienced volunteer trainers
capable of delivering basic safeguarding training to parish volunteers.
5.Provide quarterly reports to the DSA who, in turn will report to the
Diocesan Secretary and DSAP.
6.Attend and report to quarterly meetings of the Diocesan Safeguarding
Management Group.
7.Network and liaise with staff from other dioceses involved in safeguarding
training to ensure sharing of knowledge and best practice.
8.Attend national and regional network events as required and keep up to
date with the latest developments and guidance on safeguarding.
9. Work alongside other members of the Diocesan Safeguarding Team in being available to answer safeguarding queries from parishes, including potentially receiving disclosures from concerned individuals or survivors of abuse, by telephone or email.
10. Undertake other duties as required from time to time.
Person specification - Essential:
1. Strong track record in developing and delivering high quality and engaging training.
2. Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding children and/or vulnerable adults.
3. Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance in the UK.
4. Good IT skills, including Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, video conferencing and an electronic diary system.
5. Effective written communications skills, including the ability to produce clear and engaging training materials, and to write reports.
6. Effective verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deliver training content and facilitate learning.
7. Good coaching skills and the ability to mentor volunteers.
8. Ability to work with quality assurance processes.
9. High level of professionalism, and able to demonstrate discretion in dealing with sensitive issues and confidential matters.
10. Self-motivated and well-organised; able to work to a high standard with minimum supervision, and use initiative to solve problems.
11. Empathy with the Christian faith; and ability able to work effectively within a Christian context.
12. Full UK driving licence and own transport.
Desirable requirements:
1. A qualification in safeguarding and/or in training
2. Understanding of Church of England culture and structures.
The post includes a requirement to travel to meetings throughout, and sometimes beyond, the Diocese when required, and to work flexibly outside of office hours as the needs of the post dictate.
The post holder must be in sympathy with the aims and ethos of the Church of England. The post holder must also fully support the Values of the Diocese of Liverpool.
