Summary
It's knowing you're protecting the community that surrounds you.
It's feeling trusted to deliver to the very highest standards. And it's the pride in protecting an environment of unique historic importance. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.
As The King’s official residence in Scotland, The Palace of Holyroodhouse welcomes thousands of visitors from around the World, as well as hosting a calendar of Royal events.
As Security Officer Team Leader you’ll oversee a team of security officers and will co-ordinate their daily activities, ensuring the Palace is safe and secure.
Key responsibilities
Leading by example you’ll work as part of the team, carrying out access control duties as well as welcoming staff, guests and the visiting public alike.
Security patrols, fire safety inspections, incident response and daily reporting are also a crucial part of your role.
Alongside this, you’ll support the Head of Security by playing an active part in the team’s ongoing development, helping ensure the team is ready and motivated to deliver their best.
You'll be proud of the part you play, and knowing you keep the palace secure will motivate you to deliver consistently high standards every day.
The role will involve working outside during routine patrols of the estate, and also in challenging environments such as heights or confined spaces. You will work two days and two nights followed by four days off on a rota basis.
Essential Criteria
Previous experience working in a similar role from the military, police, or security sectors is required for this role.
You'll be confident in the event of a security or fire related incident, able to apply your knowledge and judgement to respond effectively and make decisions.
It’s your team-focused approach that will make the real difference. Strong leadership skills will be vital; it’s important that you can guide, motivate and advise those around you.
Basic IT skills are a must, and you'll ideally have experience of computerised fire and/or security monitoring and access control systems.
Your good initiative and attention to detail will make you an asset to the team, helping you to identify problems before they arise, and find effective solutions.
Interpersonal skills are important too, because you’ll be working closely with a wide range of people, including employees and visitors.
Above all, you'll have a pro-active attitude and will be eager to take on new challenges, essential qualities that will enable you to deliver to the highest standards every day.
Benefits
We know that to deliver our best work; we need to feel at our best. That’s why at the Royal Household we offer a generous benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and life priorities.
Our excellent non-contributory pension plan (we’ll contribute 15% and you can contribute more if you wish) is highly valued by our employees, as is complimentary lunch on-site to keep you fuelled throughout the day.
We also offer a range of leave options to support your life priorities, such as parental pay and leave and volunteering days, as well as benefits to support your physical and mental wellbeing.
