My daughter has selective mutism, and she communicates effectively by typing into her phone. We are looking for someone to assist her in various aspects of her life, with a focus on community engagement and developing independent living skills. Your role will be essential in helping her to access the community and engage in various activities that enhance her overall well-being.

Job Description:

  • Accompany my daughter when she goes out to social activities and community events.
  • Assist with daily living tasks, including food preparation, in a collaborative manner.
  • Be a supportive companion, and be willing to engage in meaningful conversations on topics that interest my daughter, including music, social and climate justice, feminism, disability rights, animals, and veganism.
  • Provide emotional support and understanding to help manage anxiety and depression, and enhance my daughter's general wellbeing, in a neuroaffirming way.
  • Empowering and assisting my daughter in maintaining her independence.
  • Help and support in the house.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested.

Person specificationEssential:
  • Personal or professional experience of supporting autistic young people.
  • Willingness to go out in the community.
  • Full UK driving license holder with appropriate business insurance cover.
  • The ideal candidate will be kind, empathic, calm, understanding, respectful and patient, and able to listen to my daughter and respond appropriately to her needs.
  • Reliability and consistency.
  • The person I employ must have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of work, including total respect for my daughter’s privacy.
Desirable:
