Oxford Health is seeking a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Adult Community Mental Health team based in Witney. This role offers clinical leadership responsibilities and has arisen due to an internal promotion. This post is advertised as a full time post but we would welcome applications from candidates interested in part time roles.

Main duties of the job
With the changing circumstances of modern mental healthcare, the ability to adapt and demonstrate new ways of working is essential. You will have experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry and have great interpersonal skills working with colleagues to work collaboratively with our team managers, and to provide leadership and clinical expertise to our highly skilled and committed multidisciplinary teams.
You will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the community mental health team and will have responsibility for those patients seen by himself/herself, together with those patients seen by medical staff directly supervised by the post holder.
As a part of your role you will assess new routine, urgent and emergency referrals from other agencies alongside other clinicians, provide consultation to non-medical clinicians and offer ongoing management for patients requiring longer term care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe Consultant Psychiatrist will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the Adult Mental Health Team (AMHT), overseeing patient care directly and through supervised medical staff. They will collaborate with managers and other consultants to ensure effective service delivery and development. Responsibilities include clinical supervision and line management of trainees and specialty doctors, delivering direct patient care, participating in multidisciplinary meetings, and managing referrals and care plans.
The role involves undertaking Mental Health Act assessments, Responsible Clinician duties, and preparing legal reports for tribunals. The post holder must work closely with other health and social care agencies and contribute to service improvements. They will provide cross-cover for colleagues during absences, participate in the Oxfordshire on-call rota, and take part in a rota managing patients with no fixed address.
Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist’s Guidelines)
- Eligibility for Section 12 (Mental Health Act) Approval
- Approved Clinician status or Eligibility
- Higher degree or equivalent in relevant field of medical, psychology, or other studies
- Higher specialist training in psychiatry in approved training post for a minimum of three years, equivalent training in another country, or previous consultant experience relevant to this post.
- CCT in Psychiatry; OR Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
- Sub-speciality or other specialist clinical training relevant to post such as working in in-patient and PICU settings as a specialist trainee or Consultant.
- Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in this specialty.
- Experience of close collaborative work with social care and other agencies.
- Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group
- Development of close collaboration with primary care services
- Ability to undertake full range of consultant responsibilities
- Ability to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework, and to share leadership responsibilities with senior colleagues of other professions.
- Commitment to active clinical governance.
- Capacity to prioritise workload.
- Relevant experience of the administrative, management and leadership roles of senior medical staff
- Undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
- Full GMC registration
- Meets specifications set out in GMC guidance: duty of doctor
