Depending on experience, the post holder will work in a specialist Nurse role as a British Society of colposcopists and Cervical Pathologists (BSCCP) accredited Colposcopist, or will develop skills to the level of an accredited Colposcopist through the BSCCP training programme.

Assisting with smooth running and organisation of the Colposcopy Services, supporting the Colposcopy Leads to deliver NHSCCP standards for QA accreditation.

Working towards Delivery of nurse-led services that contributes to a high-quality service and timely access for colposcopy patients.

Ensure the quality of care to patients is maximised by establishing strong communication links with specialist multidisciplinary teams at all 3 sites within MSE Trust.

Ensure that national targets are met along the patient’s pathway; alerting appropriate personnel to preventing potential breaches.

If the post holder is accredited, all job roles will be expected to be undertaken autonomously

Within this role you will provide clinical sessions as a Nurse colposcopist.

Assess, diagnose and review patients referred to the colposcopy service in accordance with national and local protocols. Working with a high degree of precision and hand-eye and sensory co-ordination, carry out diagnostic and surgical procedures and treatments e.g. cervical punch biopsies, diathermy and excisional cervical loop biopsies in accordance with National and Local guidelines. Interpret results and develop programmes of care involving, and/or referring on to other health professionals as appropriate. Provide expert advice to members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers.

If training is required, the post holder will undertake a structured, competency based training programme in line with local needs for CNS role and BSCCP accreditation (to be completed within 18 months). Accept personal responsibility for identifying own learning needs. Plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need. Utilise clinical supervision and personal support network Participate in the education of pre and post registered nurses, and curriculum development where appropriate. Address specific health targets e.g., NHSCSP; BSCCP; Cancer Plan, related to own area of practice through education. Ensure own compliance and facilitate compliance of others about mandatory training and PREP requirements
