Summary
The Governing Board at Wharton is seeking to appoint an Attendance Officer (20 hours per week) to cover a maternity leave for September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Reporting to Headteacher
The Attendance Officer is responsible for monitoring and enforcing school attendance policies, maintaining accurate student attendance records, and providing support to students and families regarding attendance issues. They work closely with school administration, teachers, and other staff to ensure that students are attending school regularly and on time.
Role Purpose
The purpose of an Attendance Officer is to oversee and maintain accurate attendance records for students and staff within an educational institution or other organization. This role involves monitoring and recording attendance, tracking absences, following up on tardiness and reporting attendance information to the appropriate personnel. The Attendance Officer is also responsible for ensuring that the school's attendance policy is understood and followed by all staff and students.
Attendance Officer Duties
- Monitor attendance of students
- Provide assistance to students with attendance issues
- Ensure school policies are followed
- Identify and communicate with parents of students with excessive absences
- Prepare reports on student attendance
- Line manager for Attendance administrator
- Liaise with Local Authority Attendance Leads to improve attendance of PA & SA pupils
- Safeguarding team member to liaise with DSL where safeguarding concerns are a factor in poor attendance.
- Carry out weekly analysis of attendance data with particular reference to Pupil Premium children and work with families and teachers to overcome any potential barriers to learning.
- Identify with parents reasons for their children’s non-attendance. Ascertain the probable causes of the absences and implement strategies / action plans to resolve the situation working closely with the pastoral team, the child and the child’s family.
- Carry out home visits where appropriate to support parents in encouraging their children to maintain full and regular attendance and punctuality.
- To refer cases for consideration on enforcement actions and completing recommended actions within expected timescales. To prepare and present prosecution cases in relation to non-school attendance.
- To fulfil School’s legal responsibility in locating Children Missing Education (CME) and to support those families who wish to educate children otherwise than at school (EHE).
- Keep full and accurate records and all relevant documentation relating to meetings and contact with children and their families
- To maintain confidentiality at all times.
