Summary
'Let's Talk': Multisite RCT of a peer-delivered psychological intervention for internalised stigma in psychosis patients
Applications are invited for 2 Band 4 full-time Assistant Psychologist Research Worker (RW) posts for 1 year in the first instance (SLaM & IoPPN, KCL).
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new NIHR-funded RCT, 'Let's Talk'. Following a successful feasibility study (Pyle et al, 24), the trial will evaluate the benefits of a peer-delivered intervention to address internalised stigma in people with psychosis. It will take place across 4 sites: South and North-East London, Avon & Wiltshire, and Manchester. It brings together an international team of researchers in the psychosis field, led by Melissa Pyle & Tony Morrison at Manchester (lead site); the London site is led by Emmanuelle Peters. The intervention is adapted from the Honest, Open and Proud Programme (HOPP): To Erase the Stigma in Mental Illness, originally developed in the US.
You will be part of a local team of 2 RWs, 2 Peer-Supporters, a Clinical Psychologist and a Prof of Clinical Psychology, and a national team across sites. You will gain high quality training in the field of psychosis and stigma research, be trained in the delivery of semi-structured psychosocial assessments and have the opportunity to work on a trial that will advance the field of stigma research.

You will support and enhance the clinical research activities of the trial.
You will be responsible for: liaison with SlaM services to raise the study profile and recruit participants; conducting semi-structured interviews and other assessments with people with psychosis who report internalised stigma; data entry and management. You will receive training in the assessment measures, communicating with people with psychosis, and data management procedures.
You will have at least a 2:I Psychology degree. You will have experience of working in mental health settings as a research or psychology assistant, preferably with people with severe mental health problems, and an interest in psychosis; knowledge of audit, research design and data analysis is also essential. Experience of using structured psychiatric interviews would be advantageous.
You should have strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, be able to deliver work according to deadlines, and be flexible and resilient.
You will be expected to travel across SLaM to carry out assessments when needed.
You will be managed and supervised on a weekly basis by a Clinical Psychologist and will also attend regular group supervision with the Research Workers from other sites. You will work closely with the London team, including researchers, clinicians and experts-by-experience, attending and participating in monthly site meetings.
The posts will be for 1 year initially with a good chance of extension.
