Summary

Job Title: Mental Health Lead Counsellor

Salary Scale: NJC Scale Point 26 £36,124 per annum (pro rata)

Location: Based in Abergavenny

Contract hours: 15 hours per week - Thursday and Friday

Fixed term until March 2026 subject to further funding

Job Purpose

To develop and manage the community counselling service throughout Monmouthshire whilst carrying an active caseload of clients.

You will be working in collaboration with another Lead Counsellor who shares the same role and responsibilities and works on alternate days.

Specific Responsibilities

To develop, manage and promote the counselling service within Mind Monmouthshire.
To provide counselling for clients and hold a caseload of clients.
To work with an eclectic counselling approach which is consistent with evidence-based approaches.
To work in accordance with both Mind Monmouthshire policies and procedures and BACP guidelines.
To provide informal support and reflective practitioner sessions to professionals working in partner agencies as per partner agreements and subject to funding.
To work within the parameters of Mind Monmouthshire Confidentiality policy in respect of safeguarding and ensure that all safeguarding concerns are reported and documented as per policy and procedure.
To use appropriate forms and paperwork during the counselling process and afterwards for outcomes monitoring and reporting within the parameters of confidentiality.
To write appropriate client notes after each counselling session and ensure they are secure within confidentiality parameters.
To record basic personal details for documentation of outcomes, etc. onto Mind Monmouthshire’s database.
To mentor and provide line management to counselling students during their student placements. To recruit volunteer counsellors.
To case manage volunteer counsellors’ work, including note checking, appropriate allocation levels, etc.
To attend in house and external training to support and enhance personal development of skills, techniques and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
To participate in monthly mandatory external clinical supervision.
Ensure culture and diversity issues for the service user are a consideration at all times, and report any forms of discrimination.
To correspond and liaise as necessary with internal or external agencies on behalf of clients
Attend relevant meetings, training courses, Personal Development Plan and 1-2-1 sessions as required.
Follow all health and safety and lone working procedures, reporting any discrepancies.
Make use of all IT systems available including Microsoft packages, to monitor and deliver an effective service
Promote and encourage a high level of client involvement, consultation and communication.
To report to and liaise with managers as necessary and to carry out any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager.
