Summary

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

Home Office Digital, Data and Technology designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.

Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) enables the Home Office to keep the UK safe and secure. We design and build the services that help people apply for visas or passports; support policing and counter-terrorism operations; and protect the UK’s borders.

This is an exciting time to be at the Home Office. You’ll have a chance to shape the future and support our mission to deliver exceptional public services that work for everyone.

Our work is guided by these principles:

  • We put user needs first
  • We value delivery and outcomes over process
  • We work in the open

Our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. We also nurture talent and offer a broad range of learning and development opportunities that will help you flourish in your role.

We work hard to maintain a positive working culture and are committed to helping you fulfil your potential. We value diversity and provide an open, inclusive and supportive environment to help you do your best work.

As a Performance Test Engineer, you will assist in the delivery of Quality Assurance and Testing (QAT) solutions for projects. You will assist with performance test engineering practices, supporting the delivery of an overall QAT strategy. You will work in collaboration with delivery partners to make sure QAT is embedded by default into the development approach. To help the QAT practice thrive, you will develop an understanding of new and emerging tools and approaches.

Working within a project team, you will have an opportunity to promote quality outcomes and values. You will begin to develop your own analytical and delivery management with a focus on helping the project team deliver high quality outcomes at pace whilst honing your stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Your main day to day responsibilities will be:

  • Assisting in performance test engineering activities and developing an understanding of the full development lifecycle; from requirements gathering though to test execution.
  • Developing working relationships with different delivery partners to reduce the need to rework and refactor the application in later development cycles, optimising the value of design, development and testing.
  • Using analytical techniques, including risk-based testing, and applying formal test analysis and design techniques where appropriate to the implementation of performance test engineering.
  • Developing an understanding of new and emerging industry leading technologies.
  • Developing yourself through a range of activities that achieve current business goals, help to meet future challenges and build a capacity for change.

Other day to day activities may depend on the delivery approach, business area or requirements of the product team.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours.
