Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualificationsAbout the RoleA well-regarded special school in Walsall is looking to appoint Level 3 Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of complex needs in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Who You'll Be SupportingThe school caters for children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges
- Sensory and physical needs
Pupils are supported through highly individualised learning plans and a strong emphasis on communication, emotional regulation, and life skills.
Curriculum OverviewThe school delivers a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to meet the diverse needs of its learners.
This includes:
- Core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science, taught through differentiated and multisensory approaches
- Communication-focused learning, including Makaton, PECS, and AAC systems
- PSHE education to support emotional well-being and independence
- Life skills and vocational learning, including cooking, travel training, and enterprise activities
- Creative and physical development, including art, music, PE, and sensory integration
- Therapeutic support, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and emotional literacy interventions
The curriculum is designed to promote independence, confidence, and preparation for adulthood, with pathways tailored to each pupil's needs and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils in both group and 1:1 settings
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care, where necessary
- Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals
- Contribute to the development and review of individual education plans (IEPs)
Requirements
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
