Summary

VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade.

The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a 'share in success' environment. Business partners within the alliance will generate profit through performance against the Final Determination. The four partners, VolkerFitzpatrick, Octavius, Atkins, and VolkerRail are aligned to the core asset disciplines with the fifth partner, Network Rail Minor Works, being multi- disciplinary for low complexity, low value works.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quality Engineer to join the Major Projects Business working on the Southern Integrated Delivery project based in the South-East of England.

You will be responsible for:

  • Inspiring a strong Right First Time culture through stakeholder engagement, communications, and frequent site visits.
  • Leading external audits, third-party assessments, and client visits related to quality.
  • Creating, reviewing, and updating Project Quality documentation such as Risk Assessments and Quality Management plans.
  • Conducting project, internal, and supplier audits and inspections (including VR and subcontractor activities), ensuring issues are resolved and recorded in the VolkerRail audit database.
  • Collaborating with Engineering teams to develop a proactive quality assurance regime that ensures client requirements are met and work is of high standard. (ITP process)
  • Designing, implementing, and managing systems to capture and analyse costs of error.
  • Developing project quality KPIs aligned with internal and external requirements; produce periodic internal and client quality reports.
  • Championing the non-conformance and corrective action process, ensuring timely and sustainable close-out of actions and verifying NCR resolution.
  • Analysing trends in non-conformance, design/installation/test data, and use findings to drive improvement and root cause resolution.
  • Identifying quality training needs and deliver quality-based training workshops.
  • Leading and managing a team of one Quality Engineer.

About you

  • Internal Auditor Qualification in ISO9001, (Lead Auditor preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Quality Management.
  • Experience of driving change and performance improvement in an Engineering or Construction organisation.
  • Good understanding of Engineering documentation (Test Plans, drawings etc)
  • Experienced in Root Cause Analysis techniques.
  • Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute at Practitioner Level (preferred)
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Willing to work unsociable hours and undertake frequent site visits.
