Summary

JOB DESCRIPTIONS: PASSENGER ASSISTANT (KENT)
We are looking for caring and reliable individuals to join our team of school transport passenger assistants. In this rewarding role, you will be responsible for safely transporting children with a range of Special Educational Needs to and from school, helping them start and end their day with a friendly, supportive journey.
JOB DETAILS:
• Term-time only – work every school day
• Part-time hours – typically 2 to 5 hours per day (1–2.5 hours in the morning and 1–2.5 hours in the afternoon), averaging 10–25 hours per week
• Competitive pay – £30–£50 per day, depending on route length, skills, and any additional training, with opportunities for bonuses and benefits
• Convenient – you will be collected from your home address and dropped off afterwards after each shift.

ASSOCIATED COSTS:
You must be enhanced DBS Checked. We will complete the DBS check free of charge on your behalf, however you will be liable to pay for the DBS application fee which is £61.50 + £16 yearly to register on the update service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work in an effective, safe, and flexible manner at all times.
• Be available for both morning and afternoon shifts on all school days (term-time only).
• Commit to a long-term, part-time position.
• Monitor the behaviour of pupils during transport to ensure a safe environment.
• Ensure that seat belts and harnesses are worn correctly by all passengers.
• Be aware of each child’s specific needs, including any medical, physical, or behavioural requirements.
• Administer basic first aid or medication if trained and authorised to do so.
• Liaise with parents and carers to receive and share relevant updates as needed.
• Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns promptly to the appropriate person.
• Adhere to all KCC safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Wear your KCC identification badge at all times while on duty.
• Keep up to date with required training and complete refresher sessions as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• You must reside in Kent.
• An Enhanced DBS check (criminal record check) is required; this will be completed by our company as you will be working with children, young people, and/or vulnerable adults.
• Willingness to complete a Passenger Assistant Course (held in Aylesford, Kent from 9am–3pm). First Aid and Safeguarding training will also be provided.
• Availability for a September start date.


PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED
• A good command of the English language, with clear and accurate communication skills.
• You must be reliable, punctual, and able to remain calm under pressure.
• A friendly, positive attitude and the ability to build a good rapport with children and families.
• Patience and empathy, especially when working with children and adults with additional needs.
• Physically fit and able to assist passengers when getting in and out of the vehicle; additional training will be provided for assisting passengers with wheelchairs, epilepsy, or anaphylactic needs.
• Ability to monitor and ensure the safety and comfort of passengers at all times.
• Previous experience in a similar role is beneficial but not essential — full training will be provided.
