We pride ourselves in being a small, friendly department, with real drive to improve both patient care and the working environment for our staff. This is a job share post to work with the current Consultant with a total job plan of 12PA. As well as developing the cornea and anterior segment service the new post-holder will be expected to support the adult cataract surgery service. Our consultants work a 1 in 5 local weekday on-call rota and a regional 1 in 17 weekend regional on-call based at University Hospitals Southampton and it is expected that this will be shared with current consultant. The department actively supports staff training and development, as exampled by our development of our Ophthalmic Practitioner team, success with OPT and development of CESR training, and is committed to ensure a sustainable work life balance exists. We have been successful at getting many junior doctors onto Ophthamic Specialist Training at both ST1 and ST3 level. The Trust is committed to flexible working and the development of this job share is an example of this. We are developing a strong research portfolio supported by our Research Fellow and links with the University Department in Southampton, it is possible to have dedicated time for research in the successful candidates job plan.
