Summary
Working under the overall supervision of the Class Teacher, you will assist with and support the teaching, learning and general care of pupils. You will need to have experience of working with children who have complex learning and SEMH needs as you will be providing some one to one support that addresses individual learning and language needs. Helping pupils to develop communication skills, you will promote independence and the development of self esteem, encouraging pupils to interact and engage in activities.
As part of a supportive and enthusiastic team, you will be a positive role model for our pupils. Confident in working with individual pupils or groups, you will work with and supervise them under the instruction of teaching staff, adapting your approach to meet their needs. You will ensure the safety and welfare of pupils at all times, and will contribute to the school’s statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
With experience of working with SEND children, you will be comfortable working with pupils who may have challenging behaviours or for whom English is an additional language. You will ideally hold an NVQ or equivalent qualification in Teaching Assistance, and will have had training in special educational needs strategies. You will have an understanding and working knowledge of the National Curriculum and other learning programmes, and will have excellent IT, literacy and numeracy skills.
