Summary

Drummond Community High School Learning Community is fully committed to the inclusion of children and young people with Additional Support Needs. A number of learners across the Learning Community have Additional Support Needs. The Learning Community is located very close to the centre of Edinburgh, with some parking however also excellent transport links via tram, bus and train, to all areas of the city and surrounding areas.

As a valued member of the Learning Community Inclusion Team, you will work with school leaders, class and subject teachers, Support for Learning and Pupil Support staff to strengthen school capacity to meet the needs of children and young people with Additional Support Needs through strong universal provision and appropriate targeted support. Key areas for this work are: learning, teaching and assessment; personalised support; transitions; partnerships (particularly with parents and carers); ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion.

This role will involve working with learners with a range of additional support needs from ages 3-18.

We are looking for an ASL teacher who is committed to inclusion and improving outcomes for learners with Additional Support Needs and who has:

  • Appropriate specialist knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with Additional Support Needs using inclusive approaches and pedagogy;
  • Knowledge and understanding of key legislation and guidance in relation to inclusion, GIRFEC and wellbeing;
  • Understanding of good practice and evidence base in the field of inclusion;
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a range of practitioners to create high quality inclusive learning environments.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
