Our Service
Regulatory Services includes the Council’s Environmental Health Services, and some Trading Standards functions. Its purpose is to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the County and to protect the interests of legitimate businesses. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and, where necessary, by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Council’s statutory and non-statutory functions of Regulatory Services.
The Role
As an Environmental Health Officer in Farming, Food and Health, you will protect the health of communities.
The main responsibilities include:
Ensuring that food manufactured, prepared, exported, imported, and offered for sale in the County complies with hygiene, safety and standards by working with the food industry and taking action where necessary
Investigating cases/suspected cases and outbreaks of food poisoning and food borne disease
Investigating health and safety at work incidents in line with the NYC enforcement policy
Protecting the health and safety of residents by inspecting and registering cosmetic premises and practitioners.
What you will bring
We are looking for individuals who have experience of working within Environmental Health and of managing conflict and complaints informally and formally.
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will have a Degree in Environmental Health (BSc or MSc), be a qualified Environmental Health Officer registered by the Environmental Health Registration Board and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
As an exceptional candidate, we would love to hear about your ability to make fast paced decisions. Some of the key skills you will need in this role are:
Investigative, analytical, and interpretative skills
Knowledge of current environmental health legislation and practice and of the relationship with other public agencies
Understanding of the political context and the ability to operate sensitively and efficiently within a political environment
Ability to carry out tasks in compliance with safe and consistent standards and to promote healthy and safe working practices.
