Playing key role in managing the legal services team and protecting the University's position from a legal perspective.
This role deputises for and supports the Director in managing the University's legal affairs, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, and providing strategic legal advice across the institution. This role involves leading legal initiatives, managing legal risks, and overseeing the delivery of legal services to support the University's objectives; delivering professional legal advice to the Chief Academic Services Officer and University Secretary, the University Leadership Team, and all academic and management units of the University. The role encompasses the management of team members including lawyers and those responsible for data protection and information governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that the University is compliant with all relevant legislation and provide advice and expertise to resolve legal issues as they arise.
- Keep up to date with legal developments and changes of legislation affecting the University’s operations and activities and proactively advising the relevant colleagues of implications and necessary action to be taken.
- Manage the University’s compliance with the following University policies: Whistleblowing Policy and procedures, the Modern Slavery Act, Data Protection, Counterterrorism and Security Act and Freedom of Speech.

The Legal Services team provides legal advice and support, compliance, and general risk management insight across the entire University, working with colleagues in academic schools and professional services teams.
