Summary

The Managing Safe Interactions Team, part of People Safety within DWP’s People and Capability Group, plays a key role in protecting over 90,000 staff from risks posed by customer interactions: whether face-to-face, written, or by phone.

As a Safe Interactions Risk Manager, you’ll assess and manage risks following incidents or concerns, using sound judgment and Health & Safety guidance to ensure colleague safety. With over 60,000 reports of unsafe interactions annually, your expertise will support sites and staff in maintaining a strong safety culture.

This is a critical role that directly supports DWP’s commitment to safe working environments and high health and safety standards across all locations.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not restricted to):

Make timely, high-quality decisions on incidents, concerns, and reviews involving DWP and Partner staff, ensuring appropriate control measures are in place for safe customer interactions.

Conduct thorough risk assessments by reviewing sensitive and potentially distressing reports, including incidents involving threats, harassment, or physical and psychological harm. Remain alert to emerging risks, trends, and issues.

Engage with local managers to identify lessons learned from incidents, offering expert advice and practical recommendations to improve safety practices.

Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to managers and staff on safe interaction concerns and queries.

Support a consistent, standardised approach to managing safe interactions across all areas of the business.

Contribute positively to team efforts, embracing change and striving for continuous improvement and efficiency.

Collaborate effectively, listening to colleagues’ perspectives and demonstrating resilience in resolving challenges to reach successful outcomes.

Work closely with administrative colleagues to maintain the Keeping Customer Interactions Safe (KCIS) database and manage associated inboxes, responding promptly to shifting workloads and priorities.
