Summary
Are you keen to work with children and gain experience of working in a Primary School? Perhaps you are a school leaver aged 18 or over, or someone who lives locally and would like to supplement your income? We have an exciting new venture of setting up wrap around childcare at our school and would like you to help with this. We set up a Breakfast Club in November and we are now seeking to appoint a responsible person/s to oversee the running of the Afterschool Club for our pupils aged 4 – 11.
Nutley CE Primary School is a small village primary school, situated on the edge of the beautiful Ashdown Forest. We have just agreed to join the Pioneer Federation so will have strong links with 7 other primary schools.
We want to make this a fun club! The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in children’s wellbeing and development and ideally will be qualified in or have experience in play work. However, training can be provided if you do not have qualifications so please still apply. A willingness to be flexible and adapt quickly is essential in any school setting, as is a good sense of humour and an optimistic outlook. This role could be split between two or more people so please apply even if you can only work some afternoons.
Duties and responsibilities:
• To prepare and deliver a range of play-based activities on a daily basis.
• Be aware of current school behaviour and safeguarding polices and ensure their implementation.
• Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues.
• Be familiar with First Aid procedures and be prepared to undertake training.
• To keep the environment safe, organised and pleasant for children to play in.
• Prepare a ‘light tea’, keep the catering facilities clean and help to maintain stock levels.
Person Specification:
The After School Club Leader will require the following qualities:
• A nurturing, calm and organised manner.
• The experience of working with children and an understanding of play and child development or be prepared to undertake training.
• The ability to provide kind and consistent care to all children.
• An ability to demonstrate a range of practical play skills.
• Be able to work as part of a team.
• Understanding of health and safety issues that affect the day to day running of the club.
We offer an extremely friendly and welcoming staff team, who feel valued and listened to and are very supportive. This is a term time only, part time role working Mondays to Fridays 3.15 – 5.45pm. Salary is competitive for this role.
Nutley CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
We believe that everyone is an individual, valued for who they are.
We encourage our school community to reach their full potential in a happy, safe and caring environment. Providing a foundation for lifelong learning, we build resilience and hope for the future, based on Christian values. A small school, with a big heart – we aim to make a positive impact within our community and in the wider world.
If you would like to apply, would like to visit our school or have any questions, please contact the school on 01825 712575 or via email on office@nutleyce.e-sussex.sch.uk. After 23/7/25 please contact head@nutleyce.e-sussex.sch.uk as the school office will be closed for the summer holidays.
Closing Date: 9 am Wednesday 10th September 2025.
Interview Tuesday 16th September 2025
