Summary

Ipswich Borough Council is the custodian of the Borough’s public tree assets, and currently manages an estimated 100,000 trees on 669 Ha of land across its Parks, Open Spaces, Cemeteries, Allotments, Council Housing communal and back gardens and other Council land. We are accredited as a Tree City of the World and have an in-house Tree Team who undertake works identified.

The Council also manages trees on behalf of other organisations such as Suffolk County Council Highways, Schools, and other private landowners. It is the legal responsibility of Ipswich Borough Council to survey and inspect its tree stock.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Countryside & Wildlife Team as a full time Tree Inspector to take the lead in the practical inspection of our trees, working alongside the Tree Officer and other colleagues.

The team is looking to recruit a qualified, experienced and professional person to undertake the necessary programme of inspections.

Duties: reporting to the Tree Officer, – you will: carry out tree condition and risk assessments across the town; make arboricultural recommendations; record inspections; transfer data to a computerised tree management database; and work with colleagues to minimise risk to the public whilst protecting our valuable tree stock.

Essential: You will have professional tree inspection qualifications and/or experience of arboricultural work and a keen ability to recognise different tree species and associated pests and diseases as well as the implications of tree defects common in urban trees.

You will be enthusiastic and self-motivated and be able to work on your own initiative, outdoors in all weathers.

As well as a good salary, we offer a career average pension scheme, generous holiday and sick pay entitlements, subsidised parking, public transport discounts, free swimming, cycle purchase scheme, plenty of personal and professional development opportunities, flexible working, hybrid working opportunities, Employee Assistance Programme and the opportunity to work with great colleagues.
