Job Vacancy: Autism Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Autism Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive team based within a school in Bury. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils on the Autism Spectrum, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Role
You will work under the guidance of class teachers and the SENCO, providing 1:1 or small group support for children with Autism. You will play a key role in promoting engagement, supporting communication, and helping to manage behaviour in a calm and structured way. This role will start from September.
Key Responsibilities
Provide personalised support to children with Autism within the classroom and during unstructured times
Implement strategies to support sensory regulation, communication, and learning
Use visual timetables, PECS, or other communication tools as needed
Support emotional well-being and social interaction through positive reinforcement
Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to monitor progress
Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and structured environment
Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience working with children with Autism or other SEN
Knowledge of autism-specific strategies (PECS, TEACCH, Makaton)
A patient, nurturing, and consistent approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEN-related training)
Experience in a mainstream or specialist school setting (preferred)
Candidates must hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (if you do not have a DBS, you must be willing to get one, we can assist you with this)
