Summary

Do you have excellent communication and organisational skills? Are you a team worker with the ability to use your own initiative? If the answer is yes then we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Health and Safety and Site Security lead to join our team in the Legacy Estate, which is part of Regional Delivery Centre of Excellence. Fort Blockhouse is currently nominated for disposal but is not a typical ‘establishment in disposal’ and therefore the post holder will be required to have broad and comprehensive experience, skills and behaviours to support the delivery of their outputs. The role is exciting, varied and provides an opportunity to improve leadership skills whilst working collaboratively with DIO colleagues, Industry Partners and other internal/ external stakeholders.

A key role on Station, the successful candidate will be proactive and forward thinking, to analyse situations and propose effective solutions. They will have strong attention-to-detail skills, with a meticulous approach when reviewing documents, assisting with audits, and ensuring accuracy in safety-related data and reports. The post is responsible for the functional management of the SHEF and Security organisations at Fort Blockhouse.

The post holder will have line management responsibilities and liaise with directly with MOD Departments, Agencies, Single Service authorities and external bodies in pursuit of primary purpose this will involve policy, legislation MOD and the wider environment.


Main details of the role include but are not limited to:


• Demonstrate a personal commitment to the DIO Guiding Principles
• To maintain records of accidents and dangerous occurrences, assisting management in determining their cause and making recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Liaise with Facility Management (FM) Team Lead on all health & safety related matters that affect the unit infrastructure, and with line managers on all health & safety matters which affect work processes.
• Advising on training requirements and providing an induction briefing on Health, Safety for service and civilian personnel including contractors.
• Conducting first party assurance, monitoring any actions and raise concerns as required. Revisiting areas to ensure action completion, providing advice guidance and direction as needed.
• Providing advice and assistance to all Health & Safety area representatives, line managers and the command by:
a. Maintaining adequate professional specialist knowledge, together with an understanding of the unit’s hazardous activities and processes in order to provide competent advice.
b. Investigating particular hazards at the workplace when requested by the appropriate Health & Safety Representative or Line Manager.
• Liaise with FM Team Leader on all health & safety related matters that affect the unit infrastructure, and with line managers on all health & safety matters which affect work processes.
• Include where necessary, the supervision of contractors and consultants to ensure their activities do not place the unit at risk of non-compliance. 4C’s Management System Coordinator.
• Properly interpreting the practical implications of all relevant health & safety legislation.
• To maintain an awareness of developments and best practices in health & safety through liaison with local working groups, Government departments, DIO contemporaries and the attendance at relevant training courses and conferences.
• The Head of SHEF and Security is chair for the SHEF and Security Committee, Facilities Management and Lodger Units Committee.
The Head of SHEF and Security is a member of the HOD’s, SHEF, Site Closure Committee, Facilities Management and Lodger Units Committee.
