Job Description

As a Laundry Assistant your primary responsibility is to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of residents' clothing, linens, and other textiles within the care home. Your role is vital in maintaining a comfortable and sanitary living environment for residents.

Key Responsibilities

Efficiently collect, sort, and wash residents' clothing, linens, towels, and other textiles according to established guidelines and schedules. Use appropriate detergents and machines to maintain fabric quality.
Ironing and Folding: Carefully iron and fold laundered items to ensure they are presented neatly and ready for use by residents.
Identify and treat stains on clothing or linens as needed to ensure the removal of any marks or discolorations.
Maintain an organised inventory of clean and soiled laundry items. Monitor stock levels and report any shortages or damage to the Head of Housekeeping. Ensure that the linen cupboard is well stocked and tidy.
Quality Control: Inspect laundered items for quality and hygiene, ensuring they meet the care home's standards before returning them to residents. Regularly monitor the stock and condition of our linen, bedding etc. and agree repairs and replacement with your Line Manager.
Inform your Line Manager of any damage to or loss of items of laundry.
Operate and maintain laundry equipment, including washing machines, dryers, and irons, following safety protocols and reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
Adhere to hygiene and infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a clean and safe laundry area.
Ensure systems for the identification and correct return of personal clothing are effective.
General cleanliness of the laundry area including air filters and equipment.
Understand wash guide instructions, laundering requirements of a wide range of textiles and the properties of cleaning materials to ensure that all areas are well presented and maintained in good condition.
Practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and team.
Act accordingly towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident.
Advise on the supply and quality of items used to carry out tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
Carry out any reasonable instruction from the Head Housekeeper or Home Manager.
Ensure that infection control policies and universal precautions are followed at all times.
Work safely within company policies, seeking advice and guidance when necessary.
Ensure that you carry out all your duties to a high standard, ensuring a hotel level of cleanliness for our residents.
Develop a positive relationship with all residents, team and other visitors to the home by becoming an integral part of the team.
Encourage residents to assist you with daily work activity, helping them to promote their independence and sense of worth.
Maintain the highest standard of personal presentation and hygiene.
Carry out deep cleaning in line with Boutique Care Homes’ procedures.
Be aware of and ensure compliance with COSHH regulations and keep all required records.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience in laundry operations, preferably in a healthcare or care home setting.
Knowledge of laundry equipment and stain removal techniques.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain cleanliness and order.
Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks, including lifting and carrying laundry.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Adherence to safety and hygiene protocols.
Flexibility to accommodate changes in workload or scheduling as needed.
Good people & relationship building skills.
Demonstrate ability to be a team player.
