About the Role

A thriving secondary school in Wakefield is seeking a full-time Teacher of Design Technology (Resistant Materials/Product Design) starting September 2025. Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 DT, including Resistant Materials/Product Design
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design and Resistant Materials
  • Confident use of workshop tools and machinery

  • Effective use of assessment for learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching of Product Design and Resistant Materials to KS3 and KS4
  • Create and maintain a safe, inspiring, and inclusive workshop environment
  • Plan engaging, practical lessons that stimulate creativity and technical skill
  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly
  • Use formative and summative assessment to guide teaching and feedback
  • Manage tools, equipment, and resources efficiently
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the DT department
  • Promote safe working practices in the workshop
  • Foster student interest in technology, design, and engineering
  • Support whole-school initiatives and extracurricular activities
  • Prepare materials and prototypes in advance of lessons
