Summary
Job Title: HGV Mechanic
Location: Shotts, Scotland
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:30
Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and dependable HGV Mechanic to join a well-established transport operation based in Shotts. Working in a fully equipped workshop, you’ll carry out routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across a varied fleet of HGVs and trailers, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with DVSA standards.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity with consistent weekday hours and a highly competitive salary package.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on HGVs and trailers
Conduct routine inspections and servicing in line with DVSA and company standards
Carry out MOT preparations, safety checks, and post-repair testing
Record all work carried out using internal job card systems
Liaise with drivers and operations staff to report defects and plan repairs
Maintain workshop tools and equipment to a high standard
Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to all Health & Safety policies
Requirements:
Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / Commercial Vehicle Technician
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent qualification) preferred
Knowledge of modern HGV systems (braking, suspension, electronics, etc.)
Full UK driving licence (HGV licence is advantageous)
Ability to work independently with a focus on safety and quality
