We are seeking dedicated, patient, and empathetic individuals to join our team as a Paediatric Complex Care Assistant, providing essential 1:1 support to a young boy in his family home in Ilford.

About Our Client: Our client is a brave 9-year-old boy who, despite being quadriplegic and fully dependent on others for his care, enjoys engagement and connection. He has a complex medical history including Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS), Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) with severe cytotoxic oedema, and a brittle bone condition. He is PEG fed, requires intermittent catheterization, and is under specialist care at GOSH. While his responses can sometimes be subtle due to his brain injury, his family is incredibly kind and simply seeking compassionate help to ensure his well-being. He lives at home with his loving parents and two younger siblings (aged 3 and 10), creating a warm family environment.

The Role: As a vital part of our client's care team, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive and compassionate personal care, including expert PEG feeding and assisting with intermittent catheterization.

  • Skillfully assisting with moving and handling (hoisting), transitioning from 2:1 to 1:1 support.

  • Dedicated Overnight Care: Ensuring comfort and safety throughout the night, meticulously monitoring vital signs (observations), and proactively managing epilepsy.

  • Supportive Morning Routine: Preparing our client for school, ensuring a smooth transition for his 8:30 AM school bus pick-up.

  • Upholding the highest standards of care by strictly adhering to the agreed care plan and maintaining professional boundaries, with comprehensive induction and ongoing support provided.

  • Fostering a stimulating and engaging environment, contributing positively to our client's daily life.

  • Community Engagement (Saturday Shifts): For Saturday day shifts, you will have the rewarding opportunity to drive the family car, enabling our client to enjoy outings and activities within the community.

Who We Are Looking For: Your Essential Qualities & Experience

  • Core Attributes: We are seeking individuals who are inherently Patient, Kind, and Empathetic - these qualities are truly paramount.

  • Experience with Children: Ideally, you will bring previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs. However, we warmly welcome experienced adult carers with exceptional personal qualities and complex care experience who are eager to learn and grow in paediatric care.

  • Essential Clinical Expertise:

    • Proficient in PEG feeding

    • Skilled in Monitoring vital signs (Observations)

    • Experienced in Epilepsy management

  • Resilient & Professional: You must be a strong individual, capable of consistently adhering to the care plan and professional guidelines.

  • Non-Smoker: Essential for this role to ensure a healthy environment.

  • Confident Driver: Essential for Saturday shifts, as you will be expected to use the family car for community outings.

  • Adaptable & Respectful: The family is new to having care in their home, and we value understanding and respect for their sensitive family dynamics and home environment.

  • Inclusive Team: We encourage applications from both Male and Female Carers. The family is open to both, with the mother noting a male carer could be beneficial as her son is "surrounded by women all the time."

  • Language & Right to Work:

    • English language proficiency - essential.

    • Right to work in the UK - essential.
