Summary

Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research (in the most recent REF we received 100% for Research Impact), excellent teaching (awarded triple Gold rating in the latest TEF) and business engagement.

Aston Business School is conveniently located in Birmingham City Centre, offering excellent transport links, with London just 1.2 hours away by train. It also has a presence in the city of London and through various partnerships, in several places globally.

The Accounting and Finance Department has more than 50 staff within it specialising in accounting and in finance and closely related subjects.

The Accounting group within the department manages and delivers a successful and very popular undergraduate programme in accounting and two postgraduate programmes, as well as supporting a range of programmes across the rest of the School delivered in Birmingham, in London, in Singapore and in several places elsewhere in the world.

As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking several inspirational and highly motivated individuals to contribute to the development of the Department’s teaching and citizenship.

There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous and relevant. The core research areas of focus currently within the department include all aspects of accounting governance and regulation, management accounting and the use of accounting information for decision making, financial reporting and accountability, accounting pedagogy and taxation. The department contains two distinct research units – related to public sector and not-for-profit reporting and governance, and in sustainability accounting, governance and reporting. It also hosts a Research Centre in personal financial wellbeing and a Research Group in fraud.

We are looking for people who are natural collaborators with others and have a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ attitude. The successful candidate for this role will provide teaching and related administrative support across a range of modules. They will play a key role in the continuous development of our teaching portfolio.

You will have a good first degree, ideally a higher degree to at least master level, and/or relevant professional qualifications, teaching qualifications and experience, or equivalents, in an accounting, or closely related, subject discipline. It would also be desirable to have industry experience in accounting, consulting.

A successful appointee will be expected to contribute to, develop and enhance the teaching and scholarship and activities of the School, both independently and as part of a team, through professional practice and expertise. In addition, to develop external links with regional, UK and international bodies such as government agencies, schools, colleges, professional bodies, business and industry as appropriate to the subject discipline and School and/or University strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, talented, gregarious team-playing individual to take a role in supporting the growth of an excellent department.

Posts are for a fixed 3 year term. This may be extended my mutual agreement, but this cannot be guaranteed at this point.
