Summary
Home Office Digital, Data and Technology designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.
The Project Support Officer plays an important role within the Home Office’s Digital, Data and Technology Directorate (DDaT) and is positioned within Data Services & Analytics. Within DDaT, the Data Services and Analytics (DSA) team find innovative uses for Home Office data and contains one of the most advanced data analytics centres in Government. We strive to lead the way in appropriate and proportionate use of data and analytics to deliver joined-up, intelligent services that unlock the value from data and improve decision making, policy and operations.
You will gain valuable experience of being part of a high performing team that provides essential project support functions to enable the delivery of high profile, transformational technology projects, at a time of unprecedented technological and political change.
You will work closely with the PMO Manager and will provide project management support in the relevant business area to projects / sub-projects which are delivering targeted benefits and improvements for the Home Office. This will include; developing and maintaining project plans, RAID Logs, Stakeholder Logs, benefits tracking, change controls, records maintenance, stakeholder management and support to the Head of the PMO, Programme Managers and wider team as needed.
To succeed in this fast-paced role, you will be proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to work collaboratively and confidently with stakeholders. You will be an effective communicator who can tailor messaging according to your audience. You will also be logical in your thinking, able to problem-solve and manage priorities within tight deadlines.
Project Support Officers enable the smooth running of the project by supporting the project manager through the operation of project management processes. The roles will offer an excellent opportunity to hone and develop your project delivery skills in a technology focussed area.
This role within DDaT aligns to the Project Delivery profession, for Project Delivery professionals in Government.

Key responsibilities:
- Working closely with (senior) project managers to implement and maintain appropriate systems, e.g. Microsoft Project Online to enable effective project planning and scheduling and allocation of resources to tasks.
- Coordinating and producing project reports for the wider project team / senior managers.
- Managing potential risk areas, through the maintenance of the project Risk, Assumption, Issue and Dependencies (RAID) logs and coordinating RAID reviews to ensure mitigation activities are completed to reduce risk impact.
- Building and maintaining professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external project stakeholders.
- Ensuring the administration of the quality review process and configuration management procedure – maintaining these and any other records delegated by the DSA Portfolio Management Office.
- Liaise with the Business Benefits and Business Case officer to provide scrutiny and assurance of Business Cases for Initial and Main Gate and Information Notes, covering compliance with findings from Gateway Reviews.
You will also be expected to carry out the following day to day activities:
- Undertaking any other grade appropriate administrative tasks to support the Project Manager and wider project team.
- Line Management.
- Benefits Tracking.
Working Patterns
This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of , job-share and compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work <4 days> per week due to business requirements.
Travel
Occasional travel within the UK may be required. Travel costs incurred for business need will be reimbursed in line with Home Office travel policy.
