Summary

The successful candidate will hold a key role in Television Team. The team is responsible for a wide range of high profile policy areas that are priorities for DCMS Ministers and No.10, including supporting the UK broadcasting sector to adapt and succeed in a rapidly changing media environment, and engaging with our public service broadcasters including the BBC and Channel 4.

The TV team sits within the wider Media and International Directorate (MINT) which covers a broad range of work on sectors including: TV, radio, press, and advertising; as well as having a key role leading the department’s international work.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive and respectful team environment, with ample opportunities to get involved in corporate work such as our social committee and staff networks. Our staff survey scores show positive engagement in all areas, with a high level of interest in our work.

This is stretching Grade 7 role with responsibility for a strategic project with the potential to drive change in the TV sector. Leading a multidisciplinary team the successful candidate will be responsible for the Future of TV Distribution project, which is making decision about the UK’s TV Infrastructure from 2034. This project needs to understand the impacts of long term technological trends, and make a decision that balances the financial impacts on the TV industry with wide ranging audience impacts, particularly for vulnerable groups.

This role is varied, but priorities in the first 6 months include: driving progress via a ministerially chaired stakeholder forum, working cross government to understand the broader impacts of this decision, and working with analysts to commission research projects and build our evidence base. Cross government working is essential in this role - and building relationship with a range of grades 6s and 7s across government will be crucial to deliver the project. Then the successful candidate will need to work closely with ministers and senior officials to drive a decision.

The successful candidate will directly line manage 3 people, with a wider project team include 2 FTE dedicated analytical support, and flexible support from technical and legal advisors.
