We welcome applications from passionate, skilled and committed individuals to join this exciting, collaborative project and help propel climate-positive technology-based companies to demonstration, commercialisation and growth.
About the Role
The primary goal of this role is to accelerate the commercialisation of climate-tech innovations by diagnosing technical barriers in the scale-up process and enabling access to UK-wide expertise and facilities. The role supports the EarthScale programme—a multi-university initiative led by Imperial College London—by working with advanced start-ups to identify scale-up challenges, recommend next steps, and connect them with relevant support.
Leveraging the broader innovation ecosystem, the postholder will apply their expertise in areas such as formulation, materials, system integration, and manufacturing to provide tailored technical diagnoses and support plans. This includes facilitating access to prototyping labs, hackspaces, and specialist trial facilities.
The postholder will also ensure project funding mechanisms, like innovation vouchers, are used effectively to unlock academic and industry resources. Where possible, pro bono support from ecosystem partners will be encouraged. Additionally, they will contribute to dissemination through case studies, social media, and engagement with advocacy partners, while supporting innovators with certification and procurement processes.
With KPIs tied to accelerator performance, responsibilities include recruiting innovators, managing project portfolios, and contributing to reporting and funding decisions as part of a reviewer panel. This role is central to advancing technology and manufacturing readiness levels in the UK climate-tech sector.
About You
You will be educated to degree level in a subject related to Cranfield’s core themes, or have equivalent experience, and have demonstrable experience with support for technical innovation and scale-up, as well as proven ability in successful project management and in effective communication with diverse teams.
