Summary
1. Job Purpose
To carry out professional fire risk assessments for a variety of premises in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and associated UK legislation. The role is primarily home-based with frequent UK-wide travel, along with mandatory monthly visits to the company’s office and additional attendance as required for administrative tasks, training, and staff development activities.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fire risk assessments across various property types, including commercial, industrial, residential, and public sector premises.
- Identify and evaluate fire hazards, assess the adequacy of current fire precautions, and recommend proportionate and practical improvements.
- Produce clear, comprehensive fire risk assessment reports using standard templates and best-practice methodology (e.g. PAS 79).
Review fire safety arrangements including:
- Means of escape
- Fire detection and alarm systems
- Firefighting equipment
- Emergency lighting
- Fire signage
- Evacuation strategies
- Provide expert advice to clients to ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and related guidance.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, enforcing authorities, and internal colleagues.
- Stay up to date with UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations (Approved Document B), and relevant British Standards.
- Attend the company office on a monthly basis, and additionally when required, for administrative purposes, training, and team development.
- Support delivery of fire safety awareness or fire warden training if appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and manage documentation efficiently.
3. Person Specification
Essential:
- Good understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and fire safety best practices.
- Proven experience in fire safety, fire risk assessment, health and safety, or a related discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to manage workload and travel requirements independently.
- Willingness to travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willing and able to attend monthly office-based meetings and training.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent (e.g. IFSM, IFE, FPA).
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IFE, IFSM).
- Familiarity with PAS 79 methodology.
- Experience working with high-risk environments (e.g. care homes, HMOs, educational premises).
- Ability to deliver fire safety-related training sessions.
Note: We are willing to support the right candidate with relevant experience by providing additional training and development, including formal fire safety qualifications if not already held.

- Monthly in-person attendance at the company office is required, as well as occasional visits for admin, training, and team development.
- All necessary equipment, systems access, and professional support will be provided.
- Travel expenses and accommodation (where required) are covered in line with company policy.
- Ongoing CPD and training support available.
