About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Public Health Team which sits within the Health and Adult Care directorate in Bury Council. We are looking to appoint a Public Health Specialist with responsibility for public health research, evaluation, and evidence to join our forward-thinking borough as we work together to improve health outcomes for residents.
Working across the local system, you will provide strategic leadership and be responsible for developing and managing Bury’s approach to public health research, evaluation, and evidence. You will work with partners in Bury, in academia, and in the wider system to embed a culture of public health research and build local capacity.
You will have a strong knowledge of a range of applied public health research methods that are applicable in a local setting, and experience of bidding for and managing public health research funding. You will be comfortable with analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
You will be an enthusiastic individual with demonstrable experience of leading public health research projects and programmes. You will be able to use your strong influencing, negotiation, and leadership skills to work with partners across the Borough to influence processes and outcomes to make sure local decisions are grounded in sound evidence. You will be able to build successful partnerships with universities and other agencies to identify research needs and priorities and how they can be met. You will be a passionate advocate for the use of evidence and have the skills to develop these skills in others.

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
