As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be instrumental in nurturing a calm and respectful learning atmosphere, providing targeted interventions for pupils who require additional guidance with their behaviour and emotional regulation. Your Role: Guiding and Empowering Young People
In this crucial capacity as a Behaviour Mentor, your key responsibilities will encompass:
- Implementing individualised behaviour support plans, working closely with pupils to understand and address the root causes of their challenges.
- Providing one-on-one or small group support for children requiring intensive intervention, helping them develop coping strategies and self-regulation skills.
- Utilising effective de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations calmly and constructively, ensuring a safe environment for all.
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent role model and advocate.
- Collaborating with class teachers, the SENCo, and pastoral staff to ensure a cohesive approach to behaviour management.
- Monitoring and meticulously recording pupil progress, contributing valuable insights to reviews and future planning.
What We Require: Essential Attributes & Expertise
To excel in this vital role, you will possess:
- Proven experience working with children or young people, specifically supporting those with challenging behaviours or SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
- A strong understanding of various factors that can impact behaviour and effective strategies for positive intervention.
- Familiarity with de-escalation techniques; relevant training (e.g. , Team Teach, MAPA) is highly advantageous.
- Exceptional patience, resilience, and empathy when navigating complex behavioural situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for building rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
- A current enhanced DBS check, or a readiness to apply for one.
