This post is suitable for doctors with experience in acute and general medicine looking to further develop their clinical and leadership skills. A suitable applicant will have significant experience in General / Acute medicine and a desire to work at a senior clinical level, whilst also gaining further experience in leadership and management. In this post the specialty doctor will be able build on their clinical experience and contribute to patient care at a level of responsibility appropriate to their experience, working independently as a senior decision-maker.
The specialty doctor will have responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients across the Acute Medicine department. This will include the Medical Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care and the Acute Medicine Short Stay Unit. There is also the option to work on the Acute Frailty Unit if this is within the candidate's area of expertise.
The specialty doctor will be supported by the Acute Medicine department in their clinical and leadership development. This will be through a named consultant mentor and through peer support from colleagues undertaking CESR application. Support will also be provided for CPD through study leave and funding for agreed educational activities and courses.
.Clinical duties include:
• To provide a high standard of care to patients for whom you have clinical responsibility within the Acute Medical Department.
• To participate in clinical and service developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the trust.
• To participate in clinical governance, including mortality reviews and quality improvement.
• To participate in departmental audits and be involved in implementation of change.
• To actively engage with undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.
• To ensure you actively practice reflection.
• To maintain an up to date portfolio, including documenting Continuous Professional Development with the aim of completing the CESR application.
• To respond promptly to complaints related to patient care.
• To ensure, at all times, that you comply with the General Medical Council's Guide; Good Medical Practice.
