Summary

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Support Worker and Driver / Employee Access Assistant who has a full, clean driving licence, good administration and IT skills and excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
Working as the Support Worker and Driver / Employee Access Assistant you will support a visually impaired employee and Guide Dog owner, helping them perform their duties effectively through a mix of remote and in-person support. In-person support will be required once or twice a week locally in Stevenage, involving tasks such as provided sighted guidance to navigate unfamiliar environments, helping with access to systems on a laptop, or describing the layout of rooms at events.
As the Support Worker and Driver / Employee Access Assistant you will also help with travel arrangements as and when required, including collecting the employee from home and going to the train station or providing a lift from their home to various sites.
A full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle are essential. You’ll provide sighted guidance, ensuring the employee can navigate unfamiliar environments with confidence.
As the employee is a Guide Dog owner, being comfortable with dogs and helping with their care, such as exercise, will be part of the role as well.
This role requires the ability to work under pressure and take initiative, managing your workload efficiently. Whether assisting with travel, preparing documents, or providing sighted guidance, your proactive attitude and organisational skills will be key to your success.
You will be fully trained in tasks such as sighted guiding and how to work confidently around a Guide Dog, ensuring that you feel supported and equipped, even if you haven’t had experience in this space before. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
• A full, clean driving licence with access to a vehicle
• Ability to drive the person supported. Comfortable driving long distances. This role requires travel within the South region and occasionally to other parts of the UK
• Computer literate with a good knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages
• Evidence of dealing with confidential issues sensitively and with total integrity
• Positive, team player, flexible and thorough in ways of working
• Proven ability to use initiative and able to work effectively under pressure
• Good interpersonal skills are essential as the role will require a close working relationship with the person being supported
• Excellent listening and communication skills particularly verbal
• Proven, demonstrable ability to take a person-centred approach, build trust and work in a close one to one working relationship
• Functional level of English and Maths to enable fulfilment of role requirements such as notetaking
• Excellent planning and organisation skills
• Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
• Effective time management skills
• Eligibility to work in the UK
