Summary

Salary: £39,140 to £43,260 per annum (dependant on experience and qualifications). Pro rata for part-time
Based at: Chesterfield with agile working. Regular travel required across the High Peak
Contract: Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week). Part-time at a minimum of 21 hours per week over 3 days between Monday to Friday is also considered. Self-employment applicants are also welcome
1. WHY THE POST EXISTS
Are you passionate about helping businesses grow and thrive in the High Peak area? Do you excel at building strong relationships and delivering impactful support for businesses? If so, you could be our next Business Adviser.
As part of the Business Support team working on the Derbyshire Accelerator project, you will contribute a wealth of knowledge and experience to support businesses in the High Peak to access to high-quality business advice and support services. Activity you will undertake includes conducting thorough diagnostics, developing strategic action plans, and providing ongoing guidance to ensure their success and growth. Businesses with growth potential should be prioritised for other specialist business support solutions including funding that will help drive performance improvement, facilitate growth and create new or safeguard existing jobs.
In this role, you will need to be proactive, willing, collaborative, and have a desire to make a real difference to business performance to help High Peak businesses to flourish.
This contract is part funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) funded Derbyshire Accelerator project until 31 March 2026. Funding to extend the project may be secured.
2. THE KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Engage with a wide range of businesses across High Peak to understand their specific challenges and needs.
- Conduct in-depth business diagnostics and deliver tailored one-to-one and group support to businesses.
- Provide practical advice and strategies to address identified issues.
- Offer intensive growth-focused support and develop action plans with clear, measurable steps.
- Facilitate access to publicly funded support and grant programmes.
- Monitor and adjust action plans to ensure progress toward goals such as job creation and increased productivity.
- Stay informed on market trends and best practices to deliver relevant advice.
- Maintain accurate, confidential CRM records in line with project protocols.
- Respond promptly to leads and referrals.
- Proactively network and collaborate with local partners, authorities, and support providers.
- Collect and share insights on local economic conditions and identify gaps in business support services.
- Track client progress and portfolio performance against targets.
- Support project delivery through outcome reporting and performance metrics.
- Submit timely accurate reports and documentation to the Contracts Management team.
3. IDEALLY APPLICANTS WILL POSSESS
- Operate as a confident communicator (verbally and in-writing) and relationship-builder who thrives when making and maintaining connections.
- A strong understanding of business – working with businesses, including resilience, barriers and growth strategies.
- Be a self-starter who can identify and engage with businesses that will benefit most from support.
- Have relevant and demonstrable experience working with customers in a business advisory capacity.
- Skills in and experience of social media (including Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook platforms).
- Build and maintain relationships with economic development partners such as local authorities, networks, membership organisations and business support providers.
