About the role

HS2’s station construction partner, Balfour Beatty VINCI Systra joint venture (BBVS) are
leading the construction of HS2’s new Old Oak Common Station. Set to be the best connected and largest new railway stations ever built in the UK, Old Oak Common will become one of the country’s most vital transport super hubs. The station will have 14 platforms, a mix of six high speed and eight conventional service platforms, with an 850m-long station box. It is expected to be one of the busiest railway stations in the country with high speed rail services to the midlands, Scotland and the North and access to central London and Heathrow via the Crossrail Elizabeth Line. The Logistics and Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and management of logistics on site, materials, and plant equipment across construction sites and the offsite storage facilities. This role ensures that all logistical and plant operations align with project schedules, budget constraints, and health & safety standards to support efficient project delivery

What you'll be doing

Logistics Management

  • Develop and implement site logistics plans, managing traffic, delivery scheduling, and site access.

  • Lead logistics meetings and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure efficient supply chain operations.

  • Oversee the Vehicle Booking Management System (VBMS) and ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards (e.g., FORS).

  • Support and train Traffic Marshals, manage the Vehicle Holding Area, and contribute to Traffic Management audits and reporting.

  • Assist in the development of the Local Traffic Management Plan (LTMP) and Road Safety Audits.

  • Manage site accommodation, welfare facilities, and off-site storage, while promoting sustainable practices.

Plant & Equipment Management

  • Oversee the procurement, deployment, and maintenance of plant, tools, and machinery to ensure compliance and efficiency.

  • Monitor usage, fuel consumption, and coordinate service contracts with suppliers.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce compliance with health & safety legislation, CDM regulations, and company policies.

  • Conduct audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections across logistics and plant activities.

  • Lead toolbox talks and implement safety measures, particularly in relation to vehicle operations and logistics subcontractors.

Stakeholder & Team Coordination

  • Manage logistics and plant teams, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clear and performance expectations met.

  • Liaise with construction, procurement, regulatory bodies, local authorities (e.g. TfL), and the Client to ensure aligned project delivery.

  • Provide strategic input to project decisions while maintaining awareness of stakeholder and community impacts.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience in logistics and plant management within the construction sector, ideally on large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Strong understanding of supply chain coordination, plant operations, material handling, and traffic management.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage scope, budgets, cost control, and plant hire procurement.

  • Skilled in contract negotiations and commercial awareness related to logistics and plant.

  • Experienced in implementing safety procedures, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.

  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to coordinate diverse teams and stakeholders.
