About Tutorbase
Tutorbase is a progressive and supportive tuition centre that works with learners from Year 1 to Year 13, as well as adults progressing into further education and employment. We deliver high-quality tuition across core subjects and vocational pathways, including accredited BTEC qualifications. Our work makes a real difference to young people who may face barriers in mainstream education.
We are now recruiting a BTEC Tutor to deliver Pearson’s BTEC Level 1/2 courses in Caring for Children and Personal Growth and Wellbeing (PGW). This role is based at our Forest Gate centre and focuses on engaging and empowering learners aged 13–16.
About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced tutor to deliver practical, skills-based learning to small groups (typically no more than 12 students). Our students are often referred to us as part of an alternative provision pathway and may present academic or behavioural challenges. You will play a vital role in their development and progression.
Tutorbase will provide full Pearson BTEC training and curriculum support if you are new to delivering these specific qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Pearson BTEC Level 1/2 Caring for Children and Personal Growth and Wellbeing (PGW) to small classes
Develop and adapt schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessments in line with the BTEC criteria
Assess student work, provide structured feedback, and ensure assessment for learning is consistent and timely
Support and build relationships with learners to help them overcome barriers and stay engaged
Track learner progress, behaviour, and attendance using internal systems
Set individualised targets and develop learner plans
Collaborate with the SENDCo, Teaching & Learning Manager, and wider tutor team to provide wraparound support
Attend parent/carer and school meetings as required
Apply Tutorbase’s behaviour management policy consistently and fairly
Planning and marking time is built into your timetable – no work is expected outside of paid hours
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Minimum 1 year of experience working with young people (preferably in a school or alternative provision setting)
A recognised teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
Ability to develop engaging, accessible lessons for learners with mixed abilities and needs
Right to work in the UK
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (or currently registered on the Update Service)
Desirable
Experience delivering BTEC or vocational courses
Understanding of SEND and trauma-informed approaches
Experience in working with at-risk or vulnerable young learners
Familiarity with Pearson's BTEC specifications and internal verification standards
What We Offer
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
Employer pension scheme
Additional leave and wellbeing support
Free on-site parking
Paid planning and marking time within your contracted hours
CPD opportunities and internal career development
A supportive, purpose-driven team environment
Casual dress policy and modern teaching facilities
