Summary

Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Engineer / Electrical Designer to join our design and engineering team part time, 1 to 2 days per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate electrical design drawings, schematics, and layouts to support commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure design integrity, compliance, and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
• Create and update 2D and 3D electrical drawings using AutoCAD (or Revit / other platforms if applicable).
• Produce general arrangement drawings, circuit layouts, containment routes, lighting layouts, small power, and fire alarm schematics.
• Work with engineers and project managers to interpret and convert conceptual designs and markups into technical drawings.
• Ensure all drawings meet relevant electrical regulations (BS 7671), industry standards, and internal QA procedures.
• Participate in design reviews, clash detection, and coordination meetings (BIM if relevant).
• Maintain drawing registers, version control, and as-built records for project close-out.
• Support the production of technical submissions, O&M manuals, and compliance documents.
• Assist in load calculations, cable sizing, and other basic electrical design functions (depending on experience).
• Liaise with architects, M&E consultants, and construction teams to resolve design issues.

Requirements
• Proficient in AutoCAD (2D essential, 3D or Revit a plus).
• Experience working in the electrical or MEP sector (e.g., construction, building services, or industrial engineering).
• Understanding of electrical building services and common systems (e.g., lighting, power, containment, fire alarms, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawing production.
• Ability to interpret design briefs, specifications, and electrical schedules.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations (basic understanding acceptable for CAD roles).
• Good communication skills for team collaboration and cross-discipline coordination.

Desirable Qualifications
• ONC/HNC or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar field.
• Experience using Revit MEP or BIM 360 (advantageous).
• CSCS Card or equivalent (if occasional site visits are required).
• Previous experience in a contractor or design consultancy environment.
